UCSC's Digital Arts and New Media 2011 MFA Exhibition

Take some time and head over to UCSC to experience the Digital Arts and New Media 2011 MFA Exhibitions: PERMUTATIONS. The exhibition will be on display from April 30-May 1st and May 5-8. PERMUTATIONS will showcase digital art with social impact and present the work of ten MFA candidates who employ advanced technologies for creative potential. Through storytelling about places, times and players, these artists experiment with digital media to produce unforeseen outcomes and permutations.

ArtPadSF Open Call for NO DIALOGUE

ArtPadSF, a provocative new 21st century boutique art fair, focuses on emerging and contemporary art from the Bay Area and beyond. They have just announced a call for submissions for NO DIALOGUE, an open air video art show. Curators Dorka Keehn, SF Arts Commissioner, with Jasmine Moorhead, Krowswork Gallery, are inviting video artists from California to enter their work into this pioneering event at ArtPadsf, May 20 and 21, 2011. The deadline for submission is April 22, 2011 5:00 PM.

Selected works will screen from 8:00 to 10:00 PM, May 20 and 21 at ArtPadsf. The works will be projected from the roof of the Phoenix Hotel onto the rear wall of the Mayfair Hotel, achieving approximately a 50’ x 50’ image on the wall.

Data Visualization Challenge

GAFTA (Gray Area Foundation for the Arts) in partnership with Google, Eyebeam Art and Technology Center recently launched the Data Viz Challenge. They asked designers and developers to use the data provided by and transform the federal budget into meaningful visualization and inspire the public to "Visualize Your Taxes." A total of $10,000 will be granted to the winners, including $5,000 for the top interactive web application, graphic, or video that was submitted by an individual or a team. Submissions are now closed and the winners will be announced on Tax Day (April 18).

JoAnne Northrup receives Fulbright Scholarship

ZER01 would like to congratulate San Jose Museum of Art's Chief Curator JoAnne Northrup, for being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship.  The Fulbright Scholarship Programs sends hundreds of U.S. faculty, professionals, and students abroad each year. JoAnne will be traveling to do research at ZKM: The Center for Arts and Media in Germany.

We are very excited that JoAnne has received this opportunity and can't wait to hear all about her research and travels when she returns. Congratulations!!
