The 2012 ZERO1 Biennial approaching quickly, but we still have many fond and exciting memories dancing through our minds of the 2010 ZERO1 Biennial. Under the direction of Artistic Director Steve Dietz, the 2010 Biennial, Build Your Own World, was predicated on the notion that artists, designers, engineers, architects, corporations and citizens have the tools to (re)build the world, conceptually and actually, virtually and physically, poorly and better, in both large and small ways. In 2010 we collaborated with dozens of partners, showcased hundreds of artworks, performances, events, and artist talks.
We are extremely excited to announce that complete 2010 ZERO1 Biennial Publication is available for print on demand through Blurb Bookstore. This publication has tons of full color photographs that show how great all the artist projects were, descriptions of all the installations, along with two captivating essays-one by Dietz and one by Julian Bleeker.

ZERO1 connected with 2012 ZERO1 Biennial artists Jason Kelly Johnson and Nataly Gattegno of Future Cities Lab. Johnson and Gattegno have collaborated on a range of award-winning projects exploring the intersections of architectural design with advanced fabrication technologies, robotics, responsive building systems and public space. They opened up and gave us some great insight of their exciting project that is coming to downtown San Jose September 12 - December 8, 2012. Check out what they had to say about Datagrove and the Biennial:

Seventy two hours overlooking the San Francisco cityscape in a mansion atop Twin Peaks sounds like a pretty nice getaway, doesn’t it? For the artists and creative professionals last weekend at The Glint it wasn’t very much time to create a mobile application for the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial. But the groups pulled through with some amazing ideas and a network of new friends and potential colleagues. Hackflux participant, web developer, Anna Billstrom, remarked that it was,
“...nice being in a personal space. From the very beginning, from the first pitch, I talked honestly about what inspires me and even when ideas did not make sense, people went along with the them”.
Nika Jones, Cloud Computing and Web Developer shared a similar sentiment,
“I had the chance to collaborate with back-end designers, artists, and developers. It was an interesting space. It helped to bring out a lot of creativity and ideas. The people I’ve met here are people I would want to stay in touch with.”

Deadline July 27, 2012.
ZERO1 is currently seeking candidates to apply for a ZERO1 Fellowship in partnership with Adobe’s Creative Technologies Lab (CTL), a group of scientists and engineers with backgrounds in computer graphics, computer vision, audio, and human-computer interaction who invent and develop new technology targeting the full spectrum of Adobe’s products. ZERO1 invites artists and interaction designers to apply for this unique opportunity. We are especially interested in candidates who have prior experience working with computer scientists and engineers to create new technology. The main goal of the Fellowship is to develop an innovative new piece of technology that addresses key problems or enables creative opportunities for one or more of Adobe’s primary user populations: creative professionals, consumers and developers. Thus, a critical component of the application is a clear and convincing proposal that describes this technology (which could be a mobile application, web service, physical device, etc.) and its potential impact on Adobe customers and how it will change their lives.

Part incubator, part research lab, part think tank, the ZERO1 Garage launches this fall! The ZERO1 Garage is where principles of artistic creativity are applied to real world innovation challenges. Through the lens of art and technology, it will inform strategies for research, development, and creativity by provoking challenges that address the complex world in which we live. The ZERO1 Garage is envisioned as a platform for creative risk-takers from the arts and culture, business, science and academic sectors to interact, engage, and spur innovative change.
We are seeking RFQs for a ZERO1 Fellowship with sponsorship from Google Public Policy
