Anne Babel, Curatorial Assistant

Born in Germany and raised in Ireland, Anna only recently moved to the US and has become the newest addition to the ZERO1 team as the Curatorial Assistant. With a thorough understanding of Arts administration and five years of diverse project experience in the Art and Fashion Design industry, Anna assists the Curator and Director of Programs with the planning and production of a range of programming for ZERO1 and the ZERO1 Biennial including exhibitions, public art, street activation events, performances, artist talks and more.

That is what I do here at ZER01, talk to people. Change happens when one person connects to another and another and so on. I am a “Change-Maker.” Although I don’t mind talking I also like to listen. Through Facebook, Twitter,
Youtube, etc. I want you to talk, just know I will be there on the other side.

This chitchat isn’t trivial; it’s a way to save the world. This may seem like a grand statement but I do believe that conversations from creative artists, scientists and entrepreneurs, etc. can ignite participation, solutions and create community. Douglas Hull Vice President of Marketing

Doug is responsible for marketing ZERO1 and its programs. He has helped nonprofits for nearly a decade as a marketing consultant and as a corporate fundraiser, but his career started with Colgate Palmolive International where he trained as a brand manager before leading the marketing efforts of the Grow Group’s consumer division. He has launched new products for consumer markets in France, Canada and the US for brands such as Colgate toothpaste, Ajax, IBM.

He migrated to nonprofits in increments, first as a BVA consultant (Americans for the Arts program) to small arts organizations, then as the corporate development officer for the Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops before running his own fundraising practice for nonprofit clients in the Midwest acquiring sponsors such as...Read more

Jaime Austin, Curator & Director of Programs

Jaime Austin is the Curator and Director of Programs for ZER01: The Art & Technology Network and is the lead curator of the 2012 ZER01 Biennial. She was the Assistant Curator of the 2010 01SJ Biennial and co-curated the Biennial’s central exhibition Out of the Garage Into the World.

Jaime grew up in Silicon Valley and has always felt that art and technology go together like peanut butter and jelly (her favorite sandwich). Before shifting her focus on the arts full-time, Jaime held product development and marketing positions in the tech industry at companies such as Macromedia and Adobe. Jaime received her M.A. in Curatorial Practice from California College of the Arts and holds joint bachelor degrees in Art History and Computer Information Systems from Santa Clara University...Read more

Joel Slayton, Executive Director

Joel took the helm of ZER01 in June of 2008 after serving as a both a board member for the organization and chairperson of ISEA2006, which was held in conjunction with the inaugural 01SJ Biennial. An artist, writer and researcher, Joel is a full tenured professor at San Jose State University where he is Director of the CADRE Laboratory for New Media, an interdisciplinary academic program in the School of Art and Design dedicated to the development of experimental applications involving information technology and art. Established in 1984 CADRE is one of the oldest and most prestigious media art centers in the United States. To fulfill his role with ZER01, Joel has taken professional leave from SJSU.

Michela Pilo, Office Manager

Michela oversees all day-to-day office operations and provides support to ZER01 directors and staff, including coordinating and managing all purchasing, assisting with vendor relations, providing basic accounting, and executing general executive assistant tasks. Michela’s strong visual style, her ability to assimilate and integrate new technology, and her organizational skills have proven integral to the success of the organization.

Sarah Beth Nesbit, Marketing Manager

Sarah Beth works within the Marketing Department at ZER01 cultivating new relationships and providing all around marketing support. She brings a broad artistic perspective to the table with her background in fine arts, industrial arts and her Masters in Public Art. Sarah Beth has assisted with numerous art organizations and events including SubZERO, the 2008 California Biennial, 2008 Women in the City, and Absolutely Public, Crossover: Art and Architecture in Brisbane Australia.

Serlin Quah, Development Coordinator

Serlin works in development researching grants, funding opportunities and providing all round support to build the development arm within ZER01. In a past life she crafted promotional campaigns for various restaurant chains in Singapore, which helped fuel a passion for food and cooking. Since then she has helped launched Domino magazine, and helped fine tune various consumer brands. Her alter ego thrives on yoga, knitting, design blogs, and she has a healthy obsession with pretty shoes and gelato.
